There’s no doubt that if the current pace continues, Murray is set to take a beating this season, and because of that, his chance to play all 16 games is greatly diminished.
The Cowboys have to give more carries to backups Lance Dunbar or Joseph Randle — who may have put himself in the doghouse recently. If Murray suffers an injury midway through the season, Dallas’ hopes at a deep postseason run take a big hit.

The alternative is to force quarterback Tony Romo to accept more responsibility.
So far, he has minimized mistakes and turnovers. But it’s impossible to ignore Romo’s past. When he has been the guy who needs to make a play to win the big game, it hasn’t happened.
If the Cowboys want to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, that has to change and he has to prove he can close games — especially if the running game sputters late in the season.
San Diego Chargers (5-1).
